It is made up of seven smaller districts, Śródmieście being the central one. The most interesting historical features of Warsaw are located along the Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), a series of roads linking the Old Town (Stare Miasto) and the Royal Castle (Zamek Królewski) with the Water Palace (Łazienki) and Wilanów, the palace of Jan III Sobieski, which stands just outside the city.
Today it is one of the most attractive places in Warsaw. From spring to autumn it is filled with café tables, and also becomes an open-air gallery of contemporary art.
