The 11th foreign Latin American Symposium is a vital mile stone reflecting the quick improvement of easy biochemistry in Latin the USA. the subject "Gene Expression and Its legislation" used to be got enthusiastically, and, because of the imaginative and prescient of our Argentine colleagues, this system built swiftly less than the management of Dr. Gabriel Favelukes as normal Secretary of the Symposium. it's fascinating to notice the great growth that has been made in simple and technologies in Latin the US over the last few years. The expanding initiative and management being proven by means of our Latin American colleagues in organizing those symposia is a so much pleasing improvement that speaks good for the way forward for technology in Latin the USA. The early booklet of this symposium has been made attainable in the course of the efforts of an article board which include Dr. F. T. Kenney (Oak Ridge nationwide Laboratory), Dr. Gabriel Favelukes (University of l. a. Plata), Dr. Barbara Ham kalo (Oak Ridge nationwide Laboratory), and Dr. J. T. August (Albert Einstein university of Medicine). As in past symposia, very good help has come from the Ford Founda tion via a provide to the nationwide Academy of Sciences, the us Atomic power fee, the nationwide technology origin, OAS, and different teams. during the cooperation of the experts on the collage of l. a. Plata, the Albert Einstein university of drugs (the usa cosponsoring university), and different faculties, this very profitable symposium used to be made possible.

Sabatini has permitted me to discuss this work and to use some of his pictures, selected from a large number of electron micrographs. The first of the series (Fig. 4) presents a gallery of front and side views of liver ribosomes. In the side views, the smaller subunit appears to fill only about half the surface of the larger one. There is a ridge in the smaller which, together with one in the larger, forms a channel at a right angle to the long surface extension of the larger; it is not quite central but somewhat displaced sideways.

The first of these is comprised of phages such as f2, R17, and MS2, which are quite similar among themselves and differ considerably from Q/3, a member of the third group.
