We are convinced that perception basically works the way it phenomenally appears to us and that – apart from a few “perceptual illusions” – we perceive the world as it really is. 3 On this account, perception is regarded as an entirely conspicuous process. At the same time, we are, of course, willing to accept some refinements and subtleties that are compelled by physics, which in turn claims to describe the world as it really is.
