By Tom Doig

Uncrossable rivers! Hospitable nomads! Rabid canines! Marijuana fields! Hailstone flashfloods! Maidens on horseback! Underpants wrestling! poisonous mountain-top lakes! silly westerners! And the mountain-biking - loads cycling your arse will damage simply examining it. this can be what occurs whilst younger idiots set out on a gonzo trip around the wilds of Mongolia.

In July 2010, Tom Doig and his most sensible mate Tama Pugsley cycled 1487 kilometres throughout northern Mongolia from a small city known as Moron to a smaller city often known as Moron. Why? since it used to be there. Armed with spandex unitards, chinese language steel-frame mountain motorcycles, unidentifiable meat product and a woefully insufficient phrasebook, those morons blunder into the various world's so much distant and lovely wilderness—and triumph. kind of.

For 23 brutalising days—two days longer than the journey de France—Tom and Tama slog their far more than muddy mountains and throughout desolate steppes, for all time suffering to prevent Mongolia's mythical hospitality. This hilarious, completely shonky odyssey overflows with sweat, miscommunication and torrents of Chinggis Khaan vodka—named after Genghis Khan, the best warrior who ever lived.

Moron to Moron is a go back and forth booklet like none different. It has all of it: excitement, soreness, heartache, heartburn and the dried fermented milk of a horse.

Info: 34 Queens Road Colombo 03, Sri Lanka (In Bambalapittiya) +94 (0) 11 2501384 34 The Gallery Café Located in the late architect Geoffrey Bawa’s studio, Gallery Café is an original dining concept that fuses design and food masterfully. Chic furnishings, colorful blooms, serene water fixtures, and private patios are just a few of the elements that comprise the Gallery Café’s elegant and eclectic space. You will think you just walked into an upscale New York City eatery the second you enter the foyer.

The works featured in the art gallery are made by talented up-and-comers and include paintings, photographs, pottery, sculptures and more. Gallery Café been featured in a variety of travel and dining publications. Besides being (very) easy on the eyes, the restaurant’s menu is superb. Gallery Café is famous for its ambiance, cocktails, and sinfully delicious chocolate desserts. Make reservations well in advance to ensure you don’t miss this Paradise Road gem. Did we mention that this is the ideal place for a romantic dinner for two?

The city is small, but is a great way for travelers to get acquainted with Sri Lankan culture. I had the pleasure of staying at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel (previously known as the TransAsia Hotel), and I can attest to its modern, elegant décor and thoughtful staff. Restaurants in Colombo proved to be diverse and delicious. Expatriated restaurateurs have helped revamp the dining scene, and prices seem to be fair across the board. Unlike restaurants, finding worthwhile nightlife venues proved to be a bit more challenging.
